ABOUT EYE SPY LA

SUMMER DANCE! OUTDOORS AT THE FORD AMPHITHEATRE
By Kelly Hargraves
06/16/2010

TELL YOUR FRIENDS

Have I mentioned how much I love the Ford Amphitheatre and it’s starry night ceiling, hillside of trees as a backdrop to the stage, intimate seating, picnics on the patio, random coyote, deer and skunk sighting?? Probably...

Dance nights at the Ford start this weekend with an exciting new collaboration between spunky Kate Hutter, renowned theatre director David Bridel and the sumptuous tones of the world famous local a capella group Sonos. Their new work features vibrant dance, dramatic text and haunting melodies on stage in LACDC’s premiere of “Gods and Marionettes.” Also on the bill in this “twofer” is Bodytraffic’s revival of “Night”, by Israeli choreographers Guy Weizman and Roni Haver and set to the rapturous Arnold Schönberg score of the same name. Both are part of MADE IN L.A. Fri. June 18 at 8:30 p.m.

And the mornings at the FORD are hot too! With the Saturday morning fun of
Big World Fun which starts on July 3 AT 10 A.M. with TROUPE VERTIGO’s circus magic. Acrobats, jugglers and aerialists demonstrate how circus skills become a theatrical act. Kids are FREE to these special one-hour programs made for families. $5 for adults. Even parking is cheap: Only $1! Pre-show kid-friendly activites begin at 9:00 a.m.

Troupe Vertigo is the first of eight Big!World!Fun! family events on Saturday mornings in July and August. Also featured this summer are
TaikoProject creating a unique hip-hop twist on Japanese taiko drumming (July 10); the Celtic bagpipes, drums and jigs of the Wicked Tinkers (July 24); Viver Brasil sharing dance, music and myths of Afro-Brazilian culture (July 31); Latin American harpist-storyteller Alfredo Rolando Ortiz tracing his musical odyssey (August 7); dance and music of the Philippines from Kayamanan Ng Lahi (August 14); Boxtales Theatre Company’s production of the Indian fable “Prince Rama and the Monkey King” (August 21); and an opportunity to sing along with LA Opera’s artists in “Sing Out Loud!” (August 28).
