A dear friend was visiting us and we decided to take a road trip, but we didn't want to drive as far as San Diego and we wanted to see something different. So we headed to the Quail Botanical Gardens in Encintas which is about 20 miles north of San Diego.
The mission of the gardens is to inspire people of all ages to connect with plants and nature. They list 24 different gardens: Mediterranean, New World and Old World Desert, Bamboo, Subtropical Fruit, Mexican, Herb, Walled, African, Lawn, Tropical Rain Forest, Palm Canon, Central American Garden, South African, South American Desert, California Gardenscapes, New Zealand, Australian, Children's Wonder Garden, Undersea, Landscape for Fire Safety, Native Plants and Native People, and a Natural Coastal Habitat.
We spent hours there walking up and down the paths viewing flowers, fauna, and lots of volunteers helping to clear brush. The day was well spent, Quail Botanical Gardens in Encinitas was wonderful.
The hours are from 9:00a-5p daily except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. There is plenty of parking, restrooms, drinking fountains, snacks, plant store and gift shop.
