RIDE THE REDLINE TO BARNSDALL ART PARK
By Eye Spy LA Editor

Take a ride on the Redline to the Sunset/Vermont station where you can visit the Barnsdall Art Park and walk around the eclectic Los Feliz Village.

Mary Sue Owen and a couple of her friends recently took a tour of the Hollyhock House at Barnsdall Art Park. I suggested they walk up Vermont and have lunch at Fred 62 - one of my favorite places for casual sidewalk dining - knowing they'd need their energy to climb the stairs up Olive Hill. The restaurant was created by two Freds both born in 1962 - hence the name. It turned out lunch was a big hit, especially the shakes and the Thai Cobb Salad.

Bonus: great views of the Hollywood Hills including the Hollywood Sign and the Griffith Observatory from Hollyhock House at the Barnsdall Art Park.

They also enjoyed browsing Skylight Books, a "fiercely" independent bookstore a couple of doors down, where they found a nice section of books on Los Angeles and California. Located at 1818 North Vermont Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90027 - 323.660.1175 Hours: 10a.m.-10p.m.

If you are looking for a place to get a bite to eat late this is a good choice. Fast, friendly food served with surprising flair. Fred 62 open 24/7. 1850 N. Vermont Ave Los Angeles, CA 90027 - 323.667.0062

Salad as work of art
Thai Cobb Salad - spinach, shredded chicken, bacon, tomato, egg, sum tum, green papaya salad, chopped peanuts and fried won tons with spicy thai dressing.

Hippie Sandwich - avocado, thick tomatoes, alfafa sprouts, melted jack cheese served on toasted multi-grain wheat bread.

The Dime Bag - 2 of the following: pancakes, hash browns, eggs, tomatoes, bacon or chicken sausage or choice of sausage patties.

Find out what's going on now in Los Feliz/Silverlake or nearby in Hollywood.
