"TOTEM" A TESTAMENT TO THE WONDER OF WHAT THE HUMAN BODY CAN DO

The latest show from Cirque du Soleil to hit the Southern California area, TOTEM traces, through amazing gymnastics, the progress of evolution from amphibians to athletic, trapeze-flying human beings. There's even a humorous progression of monkeys to a man in a business suit. The opening spectacle involves the characters flinging themselves around a jungle gym apparatus evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations. The apparatus then lifts into the rafters, and a man in a crystal suit pops down from time to time to spark life.
There's humor in a Venice Beach-type act. A scrawny fellow, really a clown, appears on the beach. Then two ripped dudes in bathing suits come onstage to challenge each other in amazing feats on rings, swinging around the stage without colliding, and are then joined by a woman who is just as amazing.
There are incredible women riding tall unicycles who catch bowls and stack them up on their heads. Two "Crystal Ladies" spin glittering objects and each other. Plus a number of other equally fantastic performers.
Like all Cirque du Soleil shows, TOTEM is a testament to the wonder of what the human body can do.
TOTEM through November 10, 2013 at the Port of Los Angeles, San Pedro. Then the show will move on to Irvine and then to Santa Monica. CLICK HERE for tickets and more information.
