ROUTE 66 - FONTANA

Route 66 is quickly becoming quite a trendy tourist destination. Bono's Italian Deli, located on Route 66 in Fontana, was established in 1936. It is now for lease. Here is that golden state opportunity you've been waiting for to enter the tourism industry and the sign says they'll train you too.

You wouldn't know it, probably can't even quite imagine (as you drive through this area today) that this road was once lined with beautiful citrus groves. That was the almost mirage like sight that greeted weary travelers dried out and dusty from the travails of crossing the Mohave desert. Stands like this Bono Orange dotted the area providing refreshing citrus drinks. People must surely have thought they'd reached paradise.

Bono's Italian Deli, since 1936 on Route 66 in Fontana.

Route 66 Sunday getaway drive:
Started in San Bernardino.
The Wigwam Motel in Rialto
Dinosaurs in Rancho Cucamonga
Bono's in Fontana

Editor's Note: this is a continuation of our Route 66 trip through San Bernardino and into Los Angeles.
