MUSEUM ROW, MIRACLE MILE, LACMA & ALL THAT SUMMER JAZZ
By Eye Spy LA

Mid Wilshire is indeed a "Miracle Mile" of things to do. Museum Row anchored by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art makes this a prme destination anytime. During the summer when nights are warm, go for the free jazz concerts at LACMA on Friday evenings and explore the area before or after the concert.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART (LACMA)

Free Jazz on Friday evenings at the BP Grand Entrance

All that isTim Burton is currently on display now through Halloween. Plus a Tim Burton Sampler of FREE film screenings in Hancock Park at sundown on Fridays during August.

PAGE MUSUEM - TAR PITS

See who's stuck in the goo outside then find out why and learn about how the old bones are excavated and cleaned up inside. Plus B Movies and Bad Science is back during August - take your picnic to these Saturday night outdoor film screenings in Hancock Park.

CRAFT and FOLK ART MUSEUM

This small museum started out as a cafe and shop featuring folk art called the Egg and the Eye that was the brainchild of Edith Wyle in the 1960's. Less than ten year's later it became the nonprofit Craft and Folk Art Museum. Like the other museums in the area they have many special programs along with current exhibitions. On our recent visit we saw the large scale cardboard sculptures of Ann Weber: Love and Other Audacities and the whimsical installation of Jenifer Angus: All Creatures Great and Small - patterns of bugs installed on the walls and Victorian doll houses peopled with insects.

PETERSEN AUTOMOTIVE MUSEUM

Not just cars, one of the current featured exhibits is Scooters - Size Doesn't Always Matter now through next May.

Just in case you get hungry - at lunch this area is a mecca for gourmet food trucks. However, if you'd rather sit down while you eat, you'll find one of L.A.'s better burgers (and brews too) at The Counter nearby. They offer a selection of prefab burgers on the menu. But it's more fun to build your own concoction by choosing meat, bun or bowl and going crazy selecting from the wide array of toppings.

This area of town is loaded with things to do. Also in the area - the Original Farmers Market (just around the corner and up the street at 3rd & Fairfax) and lots of shopping, dining and entertainment on Melrose, Fairfax and 3rd streets.
