Can't make it to the rainforest this summer for that trek you’ve always dreamed of? Exotic animals lost in a tropical Mayan temple can be found in the midst of urban Los Angeles! STAR ECO Station is an exotic wildlife rescue center that offers a great treat for locals, and a wild surprise for families visiting LA. The 18,000 square-foot STAR ECO Station offers unique hand-on lessons of ecology and environmentalism on a breathtaking encounter with rescued tropical birds, reptiles, wildcats and ocean life in a tropical jungle setting. Over 15 learning stations include an indoor tropical aviary, a walk-thru kelp forest, the reptile kingdom, and cool educational displays from the World Wildlife Fund, US Fish and Wildlife, Santa Monica BayKeeper’s, Surfrider, NOAA and more.

The STAR ECO Station is open to the public on weekends for eco-educational tours, and hosts a variety of special activities throughout the year including community events, workshops, conferences, fundraisers and children’s birthday parties. Don't miss the upcoming Creepy Crawly Creature Feature (Oct. 1-2, 10am-4pm), an entomology expo for kids that turns fears into fascinations and exhibits hundreds of species of all critters that creepy, crawl and fly.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION on STAR ECO Station - What we Do
TOURS
Our naturalist guided tours provide an interactive learning experience with the animals. Visitors experience hands-on lessons of ecology and environmentalism on a wild and fun encounter with rescued tropical birds, exotic reptiles, wildcats and ocean life in a tropical jungle setting. In addition, environmental partnerships enhance the station with 15 educational displays from such organizations as the World Wildlife Fund, US Fish and Wildlife and Santa Monica BayKeeper’s unique walk-thru Kelp Forest and storm drain display.

Open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays, 10am-4pm, tours of the STAR ECO Station begin on the half hour and last approximately 1-1/2 hours.

Fieldtrips
Students experience hand-on lessons of ecology and environmentalism on a wild and fun encounter with rescued tropical birds, exotic reptiles, wildcats and ocean life in a tropical jungle setting. Our fieldtrips provide an engaging two-hour guided tour featuring grade-level appropriate lessons aligned with California State Science Content Standards. Rescued wildlife and out 15 educational displays from such organizations as the World Wildlife Fund, US Fish and Wildlife and Santa Monica BayKeeper’s unique walk-thru Kelp Forest and storm drain display offer interdisciplinary instruction and hand-on learning in science, social studies, art, and economics.

Assemblies
The unforgettable Rainforest on Wheels brings live exotic animals to your school for a wild and fun interactive educational experience. Students learn about rainforests, endangered wildlife, and the importance of protecting their environment. Aligned with California State Science Standards, this environmental science assembly is entertaining, interactive and adaptable to all ages!

EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH / IN-CLASS PROGRAMS
STAR ECO Station provides classroom instruction, after school enrichment classes and superb Gifted And Talented Education (GATE) Programs that are aligned with California State Science Standards.

WILDLIFE ENRICHMENT CLASSES: Students study exotic animals, biomes and current environmental issues in a hands-on lesson of compassion and empathy for the natural world that inspires children to a deep understanding of their role in protecting their Earth.

GIFTED AND TALENTED EDUCATION (GATE) PROGRAMS: STAR is the largest provider of Gifted And Talented Education (GATE) in the state of California. A few examples of our classes include:

ENTOMOLOGY: Think all bugs are creepy? Let us show you that many are actually beneficial to human life! Students study insect life cycles, developmental stages, social behavior, and anatomy using live and preserved specimens.

RAINFOREST STUDIES: Students meet representative animals of the rainforest, sample rainforest products, and engage in interactive lessons on ethno-botany, eco-tourism and a range of topics that bring the rainforest to life.

WILDLIFE CONSERVATION: A hands-on interaction with STAR ECO Station wildlife and student-centered activities reinforce biological themes such as adaptation, habitats, and food webs. Students engage in a variety of games and interactive lessons to understand the range of topics that make up biodiversity. Students leave knowing how their actions affect the world and how to change their most detrimental behaviors.
