Katlin Kirker’s exhibition of approximately 28 paintings, displayed under the umbrella title of Legendary, Masterful and Rare, shows works based on historical portraits but featuring (mostly) contemporary icons of entertainment, fashion and politics interposed with creatures of endangered species. Many of the human subjects in her portraits are associated with the cause of species and environmental preservation.
Kirker was raised on a farm in Vermont and was trained at the Ridgewood School of Art and Design, and later at the Parsons School of Design. She lived for a time on the island of Saba in the Dutch Caribbean. Saba, an ecological paradise where the marine life and cultural heritage are preserved and protected, served as an inspiration for Kirker’s work. She currently resides in Venice, California and St. George Utah.
The exhibition opens Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Admission is free, but reservations are requested by calling the phone number above.
At 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., an 18-minute documentary short directed by Nick Zachar, Saba: The Unspoiled Queen, will be screened.
Beverages (including a signature cocktail) and hors d’oeuvres will be served. There will also be music.
The paintings and an exhibition catalog will be for sale. There will also be a raffle.
Paintings will remain on display for a month subsequent to the opening.
A portion of the sales from the exhibition will go to support the Saba Conservation Foundation for its efforts to manage and preserve the island’s natural and cultural resources.
NOTE: It is always a good idea to verify date, time, location and other information prior to going.
