Joy Harjo, an award-winning poet and musician, will present the Jean Burden Poetry Reading at Cal State LA on Thursday, Feb. 23. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for a reception and seating. The reading will be followed by a book signing. The event is free to the public.

Joy Harjo was born in Tulsa, Okla. and is a member of the Mvskoke Nation. Her seven books of poetry, which include such well-known titles as How We Became Human: New and Selected Poems, The Woman Who Fell From the Sky: Poems, and She Had Some Horses: Poems, have garnered many awards. She has also released four award-winning CD’s of original music and in 2009 won a Native American Music Award (NAMMY) for Best Female Artist of the Year for Winding Through the Milky Way. Harjo performs nationally and internationally with her band, The Arrow Dynamics. She lives in Albuquerque, N.M.
