Heather James Fine Art is pleased to present an exclusive exhibition of paintings and sculptures by artist and musician Herb Alpert. The exhibition is on view February 17 – May 31, 2018.
The exhibition Herb Alpert: A Visual Melody consists of abstract mixed-media paintings and large and small scale bronze sculptures. Alpert’s expressive use of various media engage the viewer with a captivating sense of movement and form, translating into a lyrical and unforgettable experience. “To have my work exhibited at a world-class gallery like Heather James is exciting” says Herb Alpert.

Herb Alpert has spent more than half his life as a respected abstract expressionist painter and sculptor, whose work has been widely exhibited in the U.S. and Europe. Since he began painting in 1969, Alpert has experimented with a number of different styles and materials. Always personal and expressive, Alpert’s painting articulate fluidity and motion. Alpert’s sculptures, particularly his towering Black Spirit Totems series, draw interest with their freedom of form and massive size. The first totems were inspired by indigenous sculptural forms from the Pacific Northwest, but the recent works have become more gestural. Walking among these giants is awe-inspiring.

Alpert’s paintings and sculptures have been exhibited in museums and galleries in the U.S. and Europe including, Art Cologne, Art Fair Basel, the Tennessee State Museum, Nashville, and the Pasadena Museum of California Art. His work is also in the permanent collections at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Los Angeles,CA., the Tennessee State Museum, Nashville, and 9 sculptures at The Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, IL. In 2013, Herb Alpert received the National Medal of Arts Award presented at the White House by President Barack Obama.
