Broadway Actress Opens Her Powerful Show at EST/LA
When, a nonverbal, highly intelligent, cerebral palsied 8 year old realizes that something might one day happened to his parents, he “orders” backup. Woody always plans ahead. His sister Ann, heeding the call for her magical birth, embarks on an extraordinary lifetime adventure to fulfill this order, while navigating the course of her own dreams and destiny. This true, and truly astonishing, story celebrates humanity and the way that we all connect along the way.
“Powerful…fierce. The quirks of individual personalities shine through” - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Ann Talman made her Broadway debut playing Elizabeth Taylor’s daughter, Alexandra, in The Little Foxes. Additional Broadway credits include roles in The House of Blue Leaves, Some Americans Abroad, and The Women with numerous credits Off-Broadway and regionally at the Second Stage, The Vineyard Theatre, Soho Rep (Cat’s Paw), EST/LA (Bright Boy), Primary Stages (Better Days), Goodspeed Opera (Carnival), Geffen Playhouse (All In The Timing), Center Stage (Picnic), Huntington Theatre (Dangerous Liaisons), St. Louis Rep. (Diary of Anne Frank), and the Long Wharf Theatre (The Cocktail Hour). Selected TV and film work includes roles in Seinfeld, Law and Order, Special Victims Unit, and in Wall Street, Limitless, Serendipity and Archeology of Women. Ann’s cast album credits include Yours Anne, and Hannah 1939, and on NPR’s Tales from the South. Her documentary Woody’s Order! (Ironbound Films), will soon have its world premiere in a major international film festival.
“Witnessing Ann’s story, her talent, and how she has prioritized her life and responsibilities, it reminds me of what Leonard Cohen said, "There Ain't No Cure for Love." – John Shepard; Director
John Shepard (Director) honed his career on Broadway before helming productions of August: Osage County (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Production of the Year 2012), Buried Child, One Flea Spare, Mother Courage and others for Pittsburgh Rep. Recently he directed The Lion in Winter for PICT Classic Theatre and Tamara for Quantum Theatre (PPG's Best play of the year 2014) as well as Or and Shining City at Off the Wall. John has appeared on Broadway in A View from the Bridge and American Buffalo (with Al Pacino), Off Broadway and regionally at theaters such as Yale Rep, Long Wharf, Actor's Theatre of Louisville, and the Pasadena Playhouse.
“A joy to see. Wonderfully frenetic invocation of the rapture and responsibility of a unique love… the play breathes and moves throughout” - PA Theatre Guide
