FLAX (France Los Angeles Exchange) continues to partner with Tin Flats to present the exhibition Endless Song, which opens on Saturday, October 13th, 4-7pm with performances by Rafaela Lopez at 5pm and 6:30pm. Artists Rebecca Bruno and Rafaela Lopez have both followed parallel paths of sculpture and performance. These two artists, whose journeys have led them to exploit and to re-translate their mediums, meet to open new perspectives on this common ground for their practice. Yann Novak will compose a sound piece to accompany their exploration of the space they are inhabiting. The new FLAX exhibition is part of a series of programs at Tin Flats focused on the notions of process and translation on view through Nov 30, 2018. The series of programs oscillate between presence and absence, tangibility and invisibility, bringing together the works of artists from Los Angeles, France and beyond. These programs are complemented by weekly screenings every Monday and Tuesday presented in the parking lot of Tin Flats, which will be transformed into a drive-in theater where each week an artist is invited to choose one of his/her films and a film of his/her choice – a feature, a documentary, another artist’s video – echoing his/her work. Tickets for each screening will be released two weeks in advance.
FLAX’s residency puts the research process of the artists and curators at the center of its programs. The FLAX House host several artists per year and has become both a center for research and an artistic community. As a live-work space, the FLAX House echoes the hybridity of Tin Flats and its artists’ studios, shared workshop and exhibition space in the heart of Frogtown (1989 Blake Ave).
