Photographer Matthew Rolston presents HOLLYWOOD ROYALE: Out of the School of Los Angeles

Free admission with RSVP via the Eventbrite link.

Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Thursday, February 15th 2018, 7:00pm
Goethe-Institut Los Angeles, 5750 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 100, Los Angeles CA 90036
Info: +1 323 5253388 or Info@losangeles.goethe.org

A reception and book signing will follow the presentation. Rolston will meet guests and personally sign books that will be available for sale.

The cultural connection between the glamour of Weimar-era Berlin and the development of the Hollywood glamour aesthetic in the 1930s is explored by Hollywood photographer Matthew Rolston as he presents his 1980s retrospective book and exhibition, Hollywood Royale.

HOLLYWOOD ROYALE: Out of the School of Los Angeles is both a book and an exhibition by noted celebrity photographer Matthew Rolston.

Hollywood Royale paints a fascinating picture of an indelible image-maker and the entertainers, models, and stars he immortalized during the 1980s, including such icons as Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, George Michael, Sylvester Stallone, Drew Barrymore, and many others.

More than just an examination of Rolston’s work, this talk, including a video and slideshow, will encompass the true meaning of Hollywood glamour, its origins, demise and modern resurrection.

Rolston frames fascinating connections between such creators and artists as Josef von Sternberg, Marlene Dietrich, Helmet Newton, George Hurrell and Andy Warhol, as he traces the history of Hollywood glamour.

Matthew Rolston: HOLLYWOOD ROYALE: Out of the School of Los Angeles
will be on view from March 2 through April 21, 2018 at:

Fahey/Klein Gallery, Los Angeles
148 N La Brea Ave.,
Los Angeles, CA 90036
(323) 934-2250

Matthew Rolston: One of a handful of artists to emerge from Andy Warhol’s celebrity-focused Interview magazine, Matthew Rolston is a well-established icon of Hollywood photography. Alongside such luminaries as Herb Ritts and Greg Gorman, Rolston was a member of an influential group of photographers (among them, Bruce Weber, Annie Leibovitz, and Steven Meisel) who came from the 1980s-magazine scene.
