The Salon, owned by acclaimed casting director John Papsidera and producer Valoree Papsidera, welcomes Belfast artist Ted Pim in his premiere U.S. exhibition, Empire Lines. Having received a swift and warm welcome from international collectors and markets, Pim caught the attention of avid collector John Papsidera. The two struck up an immediate kinship and quickly realized that Pim’s work was exactly the right fit for Papsidera’s cutting edge and innovative Culver City space.
Pim is a lifelong artist who only in recent years began to sell and show his paintings. Heavily influenced by growing up in a poverty-stricken area of Western Europe, he became transfixed by the paradoxical – the gold, gild and grandeur as witnessed at Church or Museums - and a fascination ensued with the contradictions around him. Stylistically, Pim’s work lies between Baroque and Classical and it carries a very prominent sense of traditional discipline. Pim’s rich, perfectly executed oil textures mesh with the subject matter to create a simultaneous depiction of beauty and darkness, the pristine and the haunted.
Empire Lines is a body of work that evolved over the course of roughly two years. Delving beyond the stunning floral work he gained fast recognition for, Pim has created over twenty oil on canvas pieces of varying scale - still utilizing his moody floral paintings as well as depicting detailed and hunting portraiture and a very large-scale battle scene. Says Pim, “If I can achieve 10 percent of the effect that Francis Bacon’s Head II had upon me, I am doing okay.”
