World Premiere of Commissioned Cross-Cultural Sonata

LA PHIL BRASS STARS TO HEADLINE
APRIL 16 PALISADES CHAMBER CONCERT

An adventurous program of works for brass instruments, flute and piano will fill the esteemed sanctuary of St. Matthew’s Parish when Chamber Music Palisades presents the final concert of its 2018-19 season on Tuesday, April 16 at 8 PM. A strong representation of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s brass section will be performing including Principal Trumpet Tom Hooten, Principal Trombone David Rejano, and outstanding hornist Amy Jo Rhine. Joining them will be flutist Susan Greenberg and pianist Delores Stevens, CMP Co-Artistic Directors. Works to be performed will range from Poulenc and Brahms to Bohme and Basler.

A special addition to the program will be World Premiere of the Sonata for flute and piano by award-winning Indian-American composer Reena Esmail, a work that was commissioned by Chamber Music Palisades. This year, Ms. Esmail was named a 2019 United States Artist Fellow in Music and is the 2019 Grand Prize winner of the S & R Foundation’s Washington Award. Last year she was a 2017-18 Kennedy Center Citizen Artist Fellow.

Now completing its 22nd consecutive season of presenting major chamber music experiences to Westside residents, Chamber Music Palisades is also active in community outreach by presenting music education programs in a variety of local schools. Each work in the program is introduced by KUSC’s on-air host Alan Chapman, who has been providing educational and entertaining information to audiences since the series began.
