Rick Derringer and The Standells together in concert
IN BRIEF: Rick Derringer and The Standells in Concert -- June 3, 2017. Palace Theater, 630 S. Broadway, Los Angeles. Tickets $25 at the door and eventbrite.com. Derringer's only LA appearance this summer.
It isn’t often a rock concert is also a historic event, but this one qualifies, not only because of the bands involved, but also because of the venue.
Two American rock icons will be performing together June 3, 2017 at the historic Palace Theater at 630 S. Broadway in Los Angeles. It will be the first time since the Rolling Stones Tour in 1966 that these two acts have graced the same bill.
Rick Derringer, whose career began at age 17 when he co-wrote the monster hit "Hang On Sloopy" with his group The McCoys, went on to produce platinum albums for Johnny and Edgar Winter and have more hits of his own, most notably the rock classic, "Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo." He is also a virtuoso rock guitarist, having been featured on albums by Steely Dan and others.
The Standells parleyed an early string of hits -- "Dirty Water," which has become a de facto theme song for the city of Boston,"Good Guys Don't Wear Black," "Try It," and more -- into a career spanning five decades.
The two acts will share the stage for the first time since 1966 at the beautiful Palace Theater, where Houdini, W.C. Fields, Sara Bernhardt and other vaudeville sensations once performed. The onsite manager of the Palace says Houdini’s ghost is rumored to haunt the dark corridors and catwalks of the theater.
Rick Derringer and Larry Tamblyn of The Standells will make themselves available in the weeks and months leading up to the concert for call-in or in-person interviews. Contact Mark McKinniss at 310-880-6376 or email@example.com for more information.
Two of the greatest purveyors of ‘60s and ‘70s American rock are coming to Los Angeles, to play a concert at one of the great ladies of Los Angeles Theater, The Palace. Tickets are $25 and are available at the door, and eventbrite.com. History WILL be made!
NOTE: It is always a good idea to verify date, time, location and other information prior to going.
