"People need trees and trees need people" is the mantra at TreePeople. Trees provide beauty, shade, improve air and water quality, increase property values and decrease crime.

Katura Reynolds, the Outreach Manager for TreePeople, handed me her business card and on the right hand side was written in very fine print "printed with soy ink on chlorine-free, acid-free 100% post-consumer recycled paper".

Katura's enthusiasm about what she's involved with is absolutely amazing. Her love for the forest is evident and she knows every tree, plant, and animal running around their grounds. She was kind enough to show me around their offices which are housed in yurts, the S. Mark Taper Amphitheatre, workshop space for children to learn how to make their own mulch, and the nursery where seedlings blossom into small little trees ready to be planted.

Treepeople's programs include the following: Mountain Forestry, Fruit Trees to Combat Hunger, Tree Care, Environmental Education, Tree Dedications and special events including monthly Full Moon Hikes in Coldwater Canyon Park.

Treepeople offer volunteer opportunities at plantings and tree care events, in the nursery, and with an outreach team.

Treepeople have many events and volunteer opportunities. Check out their website www.treepeople.org for the latest information.

She wanted me to mention the TreePeople's Mission: To inspire the people of Los Angeles to take personal responsibility for the urban forest - educating, training and supporting them as they plant and care for trees and improve the neighborhoods in which they live, learn, work and play.

Treepeople will walk you through the six steps to get trees in your neighborhood and schools. The six steps include: gathering community support, getting official permission, requesting funding, selecting the right tree for the right place, creating a planting day for everyone and ensuring healthy trees.
