FLAX (France Los Angeles Exchange) is pleased to present The Dialectic of the Stars, a visual arts and performance festival curated by Fabien Danesi, FLAX’s current Curator-in-Residence, under the direction of FLAX program director Anna Milone, which features works by 19 emerging and established French and American artists and collectives. Taking place over two weeks from February 11-25—when the nights are long and the lights brighter—the series will draw a constellation of five iconic venues, like points of a star, including The Sowden House on February 11, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE) on February 15, Ford Theatres on February 18, L.A. Dance Project (LADP) on February 24 and Zebulon on February 25.
Free and open to all, the public is invited to drift all over the city to attend events at these popular arts destinations, each blending their own programming with Fabien’s unique vision to ignite dialogue about L.A. as an important cultural hub. Installations and performances can be seen as allegories of coordinates, guiding the audience in the vastness of our globalized culture, like sailors once did at sea. French sculptor Nicolas Momein will unveil a new presentation of a mobile artwork made of several magnetic sculptures presented on a cargo van, evolving at each venue, acting as the totem of the project and the link between all the events. Nineteen artists will present artworks, half of them commissioned by FLAX specifically for the project.
With Scoli Acosta, Jasmin Blasco, Fouad Bouchoucha, Bertrand Dezoteux, Hoël Duret, Naotaka Hiro, Robert Karimi, Ange Leccia, Rafaela Lopez, Lucky Dragons, Emily Mast in collaboration with Alan Chan, Nicolas Momein, Arash Nassiri, Nøne Futbol Club, Alison O’Daniel, Assaf Shaham, Geneva Skeen & Noé Soulier. www.flaxfoundation.org
