the Los Angeles area for the first time. Jeffrey Wengrofsky, director and producer of the Syndicate, will present the films in person. Drinks and snacks will be available.
The Party in Taylor Mead’s Kitchen is a documentary short about LGBTQ legend, Beatnik, and Warhol Superstar Taylor Mead (1924 –2013). Best known perhaps for his roles in Warhol’s Lonesome Cowboys as well as his show-stopping performance opposite Bill Rice in Jim Jarmusch’s Coffee and Cigarettes, Taylor broke into showbiz as a Beat poet in San Francisco and was featured in Ron Rice's classic film, The Flower Thief in 1960. Fifty-one years after trading in upper-crust luxury for bohemian art stardom, we find Taylor still living a life of poetry, painting, partying, acting, homoeroticism, gossip, modest living, and indifference to bourgeois notions of hygiene. The Party in Taylor Mead's Kitchen dishes the dirt on Andy Warhol, Jack Kerouac, Tennessee Williams, Ron Rice, Woody Allen, and Tallulah Bankhead. The Party in Taylor Mead’s Kitchen was selected to open DOC NYC, Stranger Than Fiction (IFC Center), and the Berkeley Video and Film Festival, and it also screened at Boston LGBT Film Festival, Reelfest Boston, Howl! Happening NYC, Secrets of the Insect World (NYC and DC), Microscope Gallery, The Lookout (DC), and the Framestore Preview Theater (London, UK). 10 minutes.
Marti Domination in the Life of Dreams is a surreal documentary short about Marti Domination, star of Matthew Barney’s Cremaster I, member of the House of Domination and the Black Lips Performance Cult (with Kembra Pfahler, Kabuki Starshine, etc.). Soundtrack was recorded by Anohni (ex Antony and the Johnsons). Marti Domination in the Life of Dreams screened at Brownfish Film Festival at Cinema Village (NYC), Beacon International Film Festival, Reverb (Baltimore), Howl! Happening NYC, Microscope Gallery, Secrets of the Deep, the Norwood Club (NYC), and the Framestore Preview Theater (London, UK). 11 minutes.
Also screening is a sample from The Song of Hiawatha, Wengrofsky’s feature film, now in post-production, about the American counterculture as lived by quite possibly the first black hippie. 14 minutes.
