Complices / Accomplices
directed by Frédéric Mermoud

Switzerland, 2010, 93 minutes
Vincent and Rebecca, just turned 18, meet at a cybercafe, and it is love at first sight. Two months later, Vincent's dead body is fished out of the Rhone River, and Rebecca cannot be found at all. It turns out that Rebecca and Vincent had plunged recklessly into the world of prostitution, and that Inspector Cagan and his colleague Mangin are seeking to understand and reconstruct what happened to them. In the course of his investigation, Cagan discovers that Vincent was a prostitute, securing clients via the Internet. And Rebecca, far from wanting him to change, was attracted to the easy money and pushed him further in that direction. Wanting to share in his experiences, Rebecca started to accompany
him on the job. Eventually, they ended up prostituting themselves together. Questioning Vincent's clients and Rebecca's mother, the inspector watches as the corpses start to pile up, and he is forced to get more deeply involved in order to solve the murders and the mystery of Rebecca's disappearance.
With Gilbert Melki, Emmanuelle Devos, Cyril Descours, Nina Meurisse.

Out of money, she decides to hitchhike and to rely on the kindness of strangers to carry her across the country. The first person to offer her a couch to sleep on is Alex, a musically gifted Francophone who moved to Vancouver a few years ago to work for a software company. Alex decides to leave his job and follow Zoe. A romantic who is convinced he's found his soul mate, Alex's love is challenged throughout the trip. From one couch to the next, from one city to the next, they learn to trust and draw strength from one another giving new meaning to their lives.
With Melanie Leblanc and Antoine Gratton

Thursday, March 18

Panique au Village / A Town Called Panic
directed by  Stephane Aubier and Vincent Patar

Belgium, 2009, 75 minutes
This wacky, wonderful, and thoroughly absurdist feature-length film continues the misadventures of Cowboy, Indian and Horse, stars of Belgium's cult favorite TV show of the same title. The three stop-motion heroes have their regular bouts of personal drama (done with hilarious effect by the talented voices of the show and film's creators, Stéphane Aubier and Vincent Patar), but these petty skirmishes and debacles are ratcheted up a notch for the big screen with the accidental purchasing by Indian of 50 million bricks. A few fumbles later, Horse's house is destroyed and must be rebuilt. This proves no easy task, especially after a gang of mischievous, underage water monsters get involved! Amidst all the silliness, it's impossible not to notice that A TOWN CALLED PANIC revolves around an impressively inventive plot. Deftly, beautifully animated, the film achieves a rare thing: humor wildly appealing to audiences of all ages.
OFFICIAL SELECTION - Cannes Film Festival
WNNER  AUDIENCE AWARD - Fantastic Fest

Friday, March 19
