Jacob Jonas The Company, currently celebrating its fifth season, returns to the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts as 2018/2019 Company-In-Residence and with an initial intimate studio show comprised entirely of world premiere works from Wednesday, October 24 through Saturday, October 27, 2018, 8 pm, in the Lovelace Studio Theater. For the first time, The Company has commissioned works by guest choreographers, with a show featuring the world premieres of “Unknown Territories” by Donald Byrd, Bessie award-winner and Tony-nominated choreographer who is company founder Jacob Jonas' mentor; “Cupido” by Latino choreographer Omar Román de Jesús; “Transfer” and “Make A Toast” by Jonas; and “Crash,” also by Jonas with original composition and live music by Okaidja Afroso, a noted Afro-pop singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Ghana, West Africa. Jacob Jonas The Company, acclaimed for mixing contemporary ballet, breakdance and acrobatic movement, was named one of “12 standout companies of 2018” by the Los Angeles Times and “25 to Watch” by Dance Magazine in 2018.

"Jacob Jonas The Company, which electrifies audiences with its bold athleticism and stunning artistry, has carved a unique niche in the international dance world since its inception just five years ago,” says The Wallis’ Artistic Director Paul Crewes. “The Wallis is pleased to support The Company’s forward trajectory by expanding our commitment to Jacob and his unique company of dancers, by featuring it as 2018/2019 Company-In-Residence.” The Los Angeles-based company last appeared at The Wallis in a sold-out-run during the 2016/2017 season.

“We are deeply grateful to The Wallis, which we consider our home venue, for its continued support,” says Jonas. “Serving as Company-In-Residence is a tremendous honor and enables us to expand and explore our repertoire in exciting new ways.”

Jacob Jonas The Company is gaining international attention for its compelling storytelling, visceral performances and cutting-edge content creation, including the #CamerasandDancers visual arts movement featuring monthly location-specific Instameets. Lauded as an activist for dance as well, Jacob Jonas The Company has partnered with such leading organizations as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, J. Paul Getty Museum, Seattle Public Library, New York City Ballet, Paul Taylor Dance Company, and The Royal Ballet and presents the acclaimed To the Sea: Dance Concerts on the Pier at the Santa Monica Pier. The Company concludes its Wallis residency on May 10 and 11, 2019.
