This year, Travel Town is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the completion of America's Transcontinental Railroad. The Museum is featuring its newly-restored 1864 locomotive that helped to build it. It is one of only three original Central Pacific Railroad engines still in existence. Highlighting this special period in United States history, Depot Day will have a Victorian era theme, with period costume dress and Civil War reenactments.
There will be talks by train restoration experts, and tours through vintage railway passenger cars. Also, model train display layouts and jazz performances by high school bands. Travel Town features antique transportation and railroad exhibits, including the largest collection of steam locomotives in California. A railroad themed gift shop, food, and mile-long miniature train ride is available with purchase of ticket.
