Christine Panushka has been a leading independent animator since her earliest films The Sum of Them (1985) and Night-time Fears and Fantasies (1986) gained international acclaim. Panushka’s images are drawn with a simplicity that belies their depth of feeling and complexity, and her work hovers mysteriously between childlike and adult expression. Blood of the Family Tree (2020), several years in the making, is a feature- length, totally self-made animation that explores invisible connections and how hidden family history, including disease, ties us to the past. Christine Panushka has curated animation programs and has served as juror for numerous international animation festivals. She taught at CalArts for many years and is a professor in USC’s School of Cinematic Arts.
