"It's Just My Life" will makes its debut at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in June. What started out as a workshop for women exploring their own lives has become an intimate performance of life-changing revelations by the strong women who lived them. It's not just acting. It's reality.
This original work was conceived and directed by Kathleen Rubin who says, "One of the most powerful things about 'It's Just My Life' is that the audience feels like a participant in the show. You are sharing in the human experience. It's as if you are having a one-on-one conversation."
The stories are as eclectic as those telling them, but always come from the heart. Audiences get to know each of the women in a very real way and experience life through their eyes, mind, and soul.
Each tale transcends gender, race, orientation, or age to reveal a universal truth. "I love being a part of this group of women. They're fierce, brave, and wonderful," said storyteller Jule Rotenberg.
From spoken word to song, the emotions are real and happening in the present even though some of the stories are from the past. "It surprises me that I 'feel' my story each time," said storyteller Harriet Schock. All of the storytellers are on a personal hero's journey. By sharing their stories everyone becomes braver, more compassionate, more committed, more inspired, more able to move through their own story.
Each performance is different with storytellers that may include Phoebe Carter, Keli Daniels, Ali Deyer, Mary Kincaid, Nadine Khouri, Jacquelyn Levy, Gaye Lowenstein, Dawn Medina, Kelly Meyersfield, Sunita Param Olazabal, Jule Rotenberg, Kathleen Rubin, Jody Vaclav, and Shari Walker.
