The New Zimro Ensemble is a collective of musicians dedicated to performances of new and underperformed Jewish classical music. The ensemble of UCLA music students and recent graduates will be joined by by the visiting Cracow Duo - pianist Marek Szlezer and cellist Jan Kalinowski – and guests mezzo-soprano Krysta Close and baritone Ed Levy.
Music of the Polish-Jewish experience, written during and after the Holocaust, is a repertoire in search of a wider audience. The concert will feature art songs and chamber music by Alexander Tansman, Mieczyslaw Weinberg, Krzysztof Penderecki, Szymon Laks, Jerzy Fitelberg, Jozef Koffler, and Frederic Rzewski.

Neal Brostoff, founder of the ensemble, taught Jewish music courses and served as Music Programs Coordinator in the UCLA Mickey Katz Endowed Chair in Jewish Music at UCLA from 2011-16. He has taught Jewish music courses at Loyola Marymount University, American Jewish University, Santa Monica College and Los Angeles Pierce College. Mr. Brostoff has independently produced Jewish music concerts and festivals and has served as Cultural Affairs Director for the Israeli Consulate in Los Angeles and as Music Specialist at the Skirball Cultural Center.
