Old Pasadena Summer Cinema returns for another summer month of free films in unique urban settings throughout historic Old Pasadena.
Enjoy both under-the-stars and indoor movies between July 5 – July 28. Many of the screenings are family- and child-friendly, including The Muppet Movie, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Back to the Future, The Incredibles, and Princess Bride, while others cater to documentary or classic film connoisseurs. All screenings are free and open to the public.
Three outdoor screenings in historic Central Park include the chance to picnic in the picturesque setting prior to each film and special free activities – bring your own low chairs and blankets for seating. Films begin at 8:30pm with pre-activities starting at 6:30pm.
SATURDAY JULY 7: Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985) PG. Sponsored by Neon Retro Arcade. Before watching Pee-wee’s cross-country romp to find his beloved bicycle, enjoy Neon Retro Arcade and bicycle-themed giveaways, DJ sets from KCRW’s Glenn Red, family activities, and free treats from Paradis while supplies last. Get into the fun by wearing a costume inspired by Pee-wee’s Big Adventure and you’ll be in the running for a $100 cash prize courtesy of Neon Retro Arcade. Arrive by 8:00pm and check-in at Neon Retro Arcade’s booth to be considered.
SATURDAY JULY 14: Mars Attacks! (1996) PG-13. Enjoy DJ sets from KCRW’s Glenn Red and free treats from Paradis while supplies last.
SATURDAY JULY 22: The Muppet Movie (1979) G. Celebrate the art and fun of puppeteering! Enjoy a craft with the Armory Center for the Arts, roving puppeteers, photo ops, face-painting, DJ sets from KCRW’s Glenn Red, and free treats from Paradis while supplies last.
One Colorado is another open-air option, with films projected in the charming courtyard. nder Woman; and Oscar Award-winning noir classic Sunset Boulevard. Seating is provided at One Colorado, but be sure to arrive early to secure your spot.
Two Old Pasadena businesses will host films inside their spaces. Distant Lands Travel Bookstore screens four travel-related films, while CTRL Collective features "There’s Something About Mary" and "A Quiet Place."
