A 1926 steamroller printing large six foot posters in the parking lot will help the Printing Museum, Carson, kick off its annual LETTERPRESS WAYZGOOSE on Saturday, August 24th. This is guaranteed to leave a big impression on visitors! A “wayzgoose” is a traditional printers’ celebration dating back to the 16th century. This special hands-on printing event celebrating the art of letterpress will take place at the International Printing Museum from 8 am to 6 pm on Saturday, August 24th, and is open to the general public.
Following a Surplus Sale of antique printing presses and type from 8 am to noon, the afternoon will be filled with visitors printing broadsides with wood type letters, getting their name cast on the marvelous Linotype machine, and even helping with 6’ poster printing in the parking lot with a 20,000 lb 1926 Buffalo Steamroller! The afternoon will conclude with a special visual presentation by Curator Mark Barbour detailing the oldest printing shop in Los Angeles, “The Earl Hays Press: 100 Years of Printing for Hollywood”.
Admission is free (Donations are always welcome). Details of the day’s activities can be found at www.printmuseum.org. The International Printing Museum features one of the largest working collections of antique printing presses in the world, and is located at 315 W. Torrance Blvd, Carson. (310) 515-7166.
